I've seen these popping up on 'sports' cars as OEM parts. My guess is that they're a trade-off part. They basically serve as bracing. The difference being that when not being loaded (say as in a sharp turn) they allow the flex and natural vibration of the mounting points. Thus not transmitting them to the cabin. I think it's an attempt to make a car feel smoother and more comfortable while still providing a solid sporty feel to the car in a corner.
